IFAI Textiles & Graphics Student Design Challenge 2006-07

Once again, Eastern Connecticut State University Digital Art & Design students have won prizes in the Industrial Fabric Association International's Textiles & Graphics Student Design Challenge.

The winning entry was designed by Jonathan Hunt, and third place went to Jessie Marshall. Both are Digital Art & Design students at Eastern Connecticut State University in Willimantic, Conn. Jonathan and Jesse are students of June Bisantz, a professor of digital art and design at the university and digital artist who creates images for outdoor installation on billboards, banners and public transit.

The IFAI Textiles and Graphics Student Design Challenge is a unique opportunity for design students to be recognized by the textile and graphics industry. Participants gain knowledge about fabric as a printing medium, have the opportunity to demonstrate skills in designing creative elements and form partnerships with industry during project fabrication. Students were provided with strike-offs (fabric proofs) of their artwork, and the winning entry will be displayed at IFAI Expo 2008 in Atlanta.

First place winner Jon Hunt's banner design show the human eye embedded in texture, highlighing the versatility and power of textiles as a visual communication medium. Jessie Marshall's design uses intense color and light - key elements in printed fabric banners.

This is the second time Eastern students have won this national competition. Three students won prizes in the IFAI Banner competition in 2005-06 as well.
