STUDENT BILLBOARD PROJECT 2002
Public Art for the Community: Senior Design Students at Eastern Connecticut State University Professor: June Bisantz Evans These images were created by students as a Senior Project in Digital Art & Design at Eastern. The project used the power of art in the public realm to make a statement about Willimantic, CT - its present and future. Seventeen student designers were challenged to develop large-scale public images about their current perception of and future vision for Willimantic - their collegiate home town. Students worked both separately and collaboaratively to create images that acknowledged their awareness of Willimantic’s efforts to preserve the uniqueness of its past while forming an effective vision for the future. As the students created these images, their work became not only about Willimantic, but about a vision for their own future as well. The 12 X 24 ft. billboards were installed on May 1, 2002, and remained up until July 2002. All 17 images were exhibited at the Senior Art Exhibition in the Akus Gallery at Eastern Connecticut State University.
